Professional Development
The DNA EpiCenter currently offers three different classes for educators to select from for their students. Each class has been designed to meet requirements outlined in the State of Connecticut’s Core Science Curriculum Framework.

These lab–based programs are designed to interact with exhibits at our facility. This lab-exhibit connection serves to reinforce the experience of participants by creating an “applied situation” which enhances learning knowledge.

To make certain that students and teachers get the most from our programs, we have structured the material such that teachers are required to attend a Professional Development Workshop at our facility in advance of bringing their students. During this full-day workshop, teachers go through each of the three classes we currently offer. They are given instructional guidance as well as written material that they are taught how to use as pre-visit and post-visit reinforcement activities. We believe that this approach maximizes the learning experience for all involved because it utilizes a discovery and inquiry-based approach.
