We are very excited to be able to send this 2007 Annual Appeal letter to you at this time. Last year, for the first time in many years, an Annual Appeal letter was not mailed out because we felt it inappropriate to ask you to donate money to an organization whose future was uncertain. We were informed in early November of 2006 that the State funding package was not forthcoming as originally planned. This was cause for great concern as all staff, except for the Executive Director, was laid off.

While we were lobbying for our cause in Hartford, several organizations such as Dominion, Pfizer Inc and Mohegan Sun, as well as our Board of Trustees, contributed more than $60,000 to maintain the DNA EpiCenter. Fortunately, our local State legislators rallied around our cause, and, in the end, the State legislature came to our rescue during the session in June of 2007.

The State of Connecticut realizes that we are a viable educational facility that has seized the opportunity to provide hands-on learning in order to assist school systems in meeting the mandates set forth by Connecticut’s State Department of Education in the new Core Science Curriculum Framework.
